What is Karelia Friends? Karelia friends is a creative and varied group of people from different cultures and backgrounds, mixed on the same palette creating its own color. Every member has different skills, talents and interests but all share their love to art, to learn and to create. Nowadays, the group is working on different projects and exhibitions within the North Karelian museum (in Carelicum) that will present during different events in the following months.
The group started one month ago and so far has counted with the collaboration of Pauliina Syrjälä, who came to share and inspire us with her knowledge about Kantele. During that meeting we could enjoy the beautiful fusion of a traditional Finnish instrument with new ways of seeing and playing it.

The background of Karelia Friends is the Kulttuurimix project, which brings the local culture close to the group members and through their eyes and inspiration to everyone. The project is developed by the North Karelian museum (Pohjois-Karjalan museon) and Joensuu’s district multicultural association (JoMoni). The project has been funded by the National Board of Antiquities (Museovirasto).
